Feeders

Feeders (15 points): Students will have three (3) feeder projects to complete throughout the summer 2 term. Each feeder will be worth five (5) points. Feeders will be graded based on completion, prompt submission, and attention to assignment details. These small assignments are meant to help you prepare for making your video project.

Feeder 1: Cover Art: Thursday (7/2) at 11:59pm

“There are books of which the backs and covers are by far the best parts.”

 -Charles Dickens

“A book cover design requires the creation of an appealing graphic—a mini poster—that encourage the consumer to pick up the book and look through it. The cover graphic can set a mood or hint at what the reader might experience inside its covers. After reading the book, manuscript, or summary provided by the editorial staff, the designer interprets and translates the work into visual ideas.”

Fanfiction/Video/Podcast Cover Convince a company that your fanfiction or fanfiction video is professional. Youtube sponsors Youtube Creator You have approached a media company about sponsoring your Youtube Channel.  They give you the feedback that while your channel is interesting, it is not getting as many views as it should. Your assignment is to come up with a new video cover design.

“Building Narrative”

The driving force of the video will be the narrative of your fanfiction or fanfiction topic which should be an engaging, illustrated interpretive story (about 500 words) about your fanfiction. This should open with an interesting “hook” to draw people in, have a discernable thesis statement or overarching point, and present a concise, contextualized, compelling narrative about your fanfiction. This will be slightly different with a creative project, which will be discussed individually.

Major points you should touch on:

  • What’s the fanfiction’s interesting historical “story”?
  • Be sure to include basic information about your fanfiction (when written and why, original text, location (website), when was it published).
  • What is/are the general narrative context(s) we need to know about to understand your fanfiction?
  • What can be said about controversies or conflicts with your fanfiction?

Note: If you use any primary or secondary sources they must be cited and you must include a references section (this will not be included in your 500 words).

Next you will record your narrative which will serve as your base of the video. Practice makes perfect, so think about how you want your voice to sound and do a few trial runs. You can also use your own microphone or phone if you would like.
