Hi, all! My name is Dani and I’m a rising sophomore, majoring in Communication Studies and Women’s & Gender Studies with a minor in ECL’s ‘CRaDL,’ Composition, Rhetoric, and Digital Literacy. I am incredibly excited to learn about fanfic and deepen my understanding of fan culture in this class. I am also looking forward to getting to work with other classmates and share our interests and personal experiences with fan fiction. My first dive into fandom was in eighth grade with the MCU’s “Agents of Shield” as well as the dystopian YA series “The Maze Runner.” Since then, fandom has always been an integral part of my life, socially and personally, and has also impacted my academic interests! Some of my favorite or more recent fandoms are Sherlock, Star Trek, The Witcher, Stranger Things, It, Star Wars, LOTR/The Hobbit, She-Ra, Good Omens, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, Shadowhunters, and many many more. I can’t wait for everything this class has in store

I haven’t thought about the Mazerunner in so long but that was such a good YA series!

I will have to second your fandom with The Witcher! There is so much to dive into. The Netflix adaptation was done well, but maybe I will find out it that it is actually considered a fanfiction? Considering the lead actor, Henry Cavill, is supposedly a massive fan of The Witcher books.

Thank you all for your excitement! There lines between fanfiction and adaptation are softened blurred. Also, in regards to the Withcher, I cannot get that song out of my head! I wonder sometimes if multimedia helps us to appreciate the source text even more.

The game of the Witcher was also awesome! I think anyone will find the construction of the game impressive with the details put into the characters and the storyline. Some say, and I agree, that the game adaptation was better than the TV series adaptation.
