In DC Comic’s Flashpoint event, the concept of Transworld Identity is used as the basis for the comic book event that spans across the DC Universe. In the story, the Flash wakes up to a world where he has no powers and a war is turning the entire world into an apocalyptic wasteland. He eventually learns that this is all due to him going back in time and stopping his mother’s murderer from succeeding in killing her. By stopping the murder, the Flash set in motion an entire alternate universe from the one he and the comic book audience knows and in order to save the world he must undo his mistake and allow his mother to die. The entire comic book event hinges on the question of what would happen if the Flash saved his mom, an event that defined the character and pushed him to become the hero he is known for. The event looks at what the world would be like if the flash wasn’t a hero and is an interesting alternate universe story that ties into the canon universe really well.
