Fathallah pays attention to the means by which “fandom hierarchizes, silences and disciplines its own texts via feedback, including praise and recommendation, insults and mockery.” And he uses network analysis that “seeks to chart and analyse connections between nodes.” In my fanfiction project, I will definitely apply both methods. Since I am going to look at Norse Methology, a pretty old, long and complicated text, making connections and using technology like Voyant to assist me is very important. After doing the voyant class activity, I already know more about Norse Methology in terms of its themes and focus for different chapters. And because I am trying to compare it with Stan Lee’s Thor, a popular multimedia work, public feedback becomes really important. I think I will first look into how people reacted to Stan Lee’s idea of using characters and plots from Norse Methology initially, and then I will probably see how this feedback changes over time. Looking at public reactions and feedback is a great way to assist the quality of a fanfiction (now we assume that Thor is a Norse Mythology fanfic), because fanfiction is essentially created by fans and should primarily serve fans. The audience’s feedback, as Fathallah says, “not only serves as external forces, but are powerful internal mechanisms of regulation.”
