Hi, my name is Logan Jackson and I am a senior at UNC. I am originally from Raleigh, NC. I am majoring in Human Development and Family Studies and I want to do nonprofit development. I enjoy reading and I am excited to learn more about fan-fiction regarding some of my favorites books/television/movies like Twilight.
I did not know that! That’s very cool. In today’s lecture you mentioned that fanfiction can give voice to those silenced in stories. I was wondering If the Short Life of Bre Taylor (Twilight) would be considered fanfiction or not since Stephanie Meyer wrote both. Thanks!
You bring up a very good point! I think what many of your peers have brought up is the intention and motivation of some authors to make more money. Usually this act of giving a voice to the silence is political in nature (the bite as Hutcheon says it), while as the best to my knowledge, the novela doesn’t do it. What is it about? How do you think it fits into what Spivak would call the postcolonial.
Interesting point! I was more concerned about the semantics and less about the motivation. I would think that her motivations were likely financial and not at all political, especially considering it was a published book for sale. If someone else were to write something similar on Wattpad, then that would be fan fiction to my understanding. Thanks for your help!
