Haute Diggity Dog makes “off-brand” fashion merchandise for dogs. They make items with names such as Chewnel No. 5, Chewy Vuitton, and Sniffany & Co. Louis Vuitton tried to sue the company for the imitation and usage of their name and products. However, the court ruled in favor of HDD due to their unique spin on the items, claiming that there was a clear difference in the merchandise.
I actually find this so interesting because I have purchased many toys for my dog from that website including a Chewy Vuitton, Gucchewi, Manolo Barknik, Barkin, etc. I had no idea there was a dispute, I may read into it further before purchasing any more. I wonder if companies have made similar disputes for other toy brands that make Furritos (Fritos), Totos (Titos), etc.
I am always interested in whether or not ventures like this actually hurt the brand or help the brand. It seems that this might actually elevate the brand by making it even more desirable.
