One of the things that I find uneasy about navigating IP is that copyright laws change over time and these changes can result in unfairness among copyrighted intellectual properties. There can be a new law that protects a creative work while it does not bring any effect to an older work that isn’t being protected under the old copyright laws. This can result in new IP court cases and trials that resulted differently than it would in our day.

Another thing I want to bring up is that there are ideas and works out there with unknown creators. Especially for older creative works, if the owner is not known, other people might try to own the work and violate copyright law without anyone else knowing about it. Then the intellectual property is distributed unfairly and there are no consequences.

Great point! There was a court case involving Google and the Author’s guild a few years back on who owns what they would call orphan works (where it is in copyright, but no one has claimed it).
