    Why do you think that authors are often so protective of their work and refuse to even acknowledge fanfiction?

    Ignore that question, I didn’t realize it was supposed to be an essay question.

    New Question: Character Revisionism

    Authors can sometimes claim things about their characters with no support in their work after-the-fact. For example, J.K. Rowling claims Dumbledore is gay, even with no evidence of it in her works. Should these revisions of characters be considered canon? Why or why not? And why do you think they do this?
