Hi, guys!
My name is Sonali and I’m a rising sophomore. I’m double majoring in English and Comparative Lit and Sociology with a minor in Hindi/Urdu (or Education or Philosophy, that bit’s a coin-toss at the moment). I wanted to originally take this class in Fall 2020 but couldn’t find a space in my schedule for it. Thankfully, it was being offered for Summer Session II, and so here I am. I was honestly pleasantly surprised that this class focuses around fanfiction — and was super excited for it to start once I did figure it out — because I kind of read a lot of fanfics (esp. during quarantine). I think fanfictions a great creative outlet because they allow people to bend worlds however they want in order to create alternate realties.
I’m not sure how much sense that makes, but that’s the best I can explain it.
I’m excited to learn more about creating fanfics without pushing any copywrite laws, I think it will be a helpful thing for me to learn as I want to go into IP law in the future. I’m also looking forward to learning about all of the other outlets we can use to create fanfics.
In general, I really enjoy MCU (super hyped about watching Black Panther for class!), Harry Potter (not so excited about the Dramione fanfic we’ll be reading since I’m not a big shipper), Bollywood music and movies, anime, K-Pop, creative writing (I’ve started writing ten ‘books’ during quarantine, none have been completed because I’m scatter-brained and easily distracted), reading, experimenting with editing apps such as Lightroom, scrolling through TikTok and Instagram for hours, and a bunch of other things!

Thank you for the wonderful introduction. IP law is really misunderstood by most people and honestly, many of the court cases have inconsistent rulings which makes matters worse.
