The watchmen comics are the primary source, I would consider the movie to be an adaptation. The show is where it gets more muddled. On one hand it can be considered a fan fiction because it is taking it’s influence from the original primary source. Yet, the show is SO much different from the comic that it almost takes on something completely new. Alan made a good point that it’s almost like a revision instead of a fan fiction.
