For me, fanfiction tends to fall down monetary lines, i.e. does the “original” creator profit off of this newest iteration. In this case, they do, with the Ta-Nehisi Coate’s version directly paying Marvel, and carrying the initial intellectual property owners branding/direct input and authorship.
