The Mirror Universe first appears in the original Star Trek series from the 1960’s as a way to introduce alternative stories. In the episode “Mirror, Mirror” some of the crew from the USS Enterprise are beamed up during a storm into an alternate universe while their counterparts from the alternate universe are beamed up to USS Enterprise. Their personalities are completely opposite in the alternate universe where the crew is murderous and competitive rather than egalitarian.
