At the end of the last book “Breaking Dawn” in the Twilight series, there was a standoff between the Volturi, a powerful Italian clan, and the Cullen Family.
The mind reader and leader of the Volturi clan, Aro, saw the future by looking into Alice Cullen’s eyes. In that vision, he saw that his entire cult, including himself, were about to be massacred if a fight began because of the Cullen’s strength and help from their allies.
Once he realized he was outnumbered and endangering his clan, they retreated with a warning instead of unleashing an attack. This event was significant because Aro learned from an alternate universe it would have been futile to attack and would have caused both sides great losses.
